Teeth Whitening

We offer professional Teeth Whitening treatments both in-office and as a convenient take-home option. Both treatments are fast, pain-free and deliver exceptional results. Visit us at our Baulkham Hills or Dural practice to discuss which option is best for you.

In-Office Whitening Treatment

Our in-office whitening treatment uses a professional-strength whitening gel containing carbamide peroxide as the active ingredient. The gel is carefully applied to your teeth and activated using a blue light system in a series of 3–4 fifteen-minute cycles.

Teeth can reach anywhere between 6 to 8 shades lighter in just one single in-office treatment — making it the fastest and most dramatic whitening option available.

Take-Home Whitening Treatment

For patients who prefer to whiten at their own pace and in the comfort of their own home, we offer a custom-fitted take-home whitening system.

Your dentist takes an impression of your teeth and uses it to create a set of custom-fitted whitening trays — designed to hold the gel precisely against your tooth surfaces for maximum effectiveness.
  • Apply the whitening gel to your custom trays and wear them for up to 8 hours.
  • Choose to wear them during the day or overnight while you sleep.
  • After just 3 nights, you will notice a visible improvement in the shade of your teeth

Professional Teeth Whitening in Baulkham Hills and Dural

Professional whitening safely lightens natural teeth by several shades. At Integrity Dental's Baulkham Hills and Dural practices, we check your teeth first, tell you honestly what result to expect and recommend take-home or in-chair whitening depending on your teeth and your timeline.

  • Two practices: Baulkham Hills and Dural

In short: Professional teeth whitening uses a peroxide gel to lighten the natural colour of tooth enamel. Take-home whitening uses custom trays worn for a set time each day over one to two weeks. In-chair whitening is done in a single appointment. Whitening doesn't change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers. Integrity Dental offers both at its Baulkham Hills and Dural practices.

Why see a dentist rather than buy a kit

Whitening gels strong enough to make a real difference can irritate gums and cause sensitivity if they're not used properly. Supermarket and online kits are much weaker and often use generic trays that leak gel onto the gums.

More importantly, whitening isn't right for every mouth. Decay, gum disease, worn enamel and exposed roots should be treated first. Some discolouration, like grey staining from certain medications or a tooth that has darkened after an injury, doesn't respond well to standard whitening. We check all of that before you spend money.

Take-home or in-chair?

Take-home whitening uses trays custom-made from impressions or a scan of your teeth. You wear them with a professional gel for a set time each day, usually over one to two weeks. It's gradual, easy to control and tends to give stable results.

In-chair whitening is done in a single appointment of around an hour to an hour and a half. It's useful before a wedding or event. Many people use both: in-chair for a head start and trays to top up later.

What whitening won't do

Fillings, crowns and veneers don't change colour. If you have tooth-coloured fillings on your front teeth, they may look darker after whitening and need replacing to match. We'll point this out at the start so it's not a surprise.

Results also fade over time, faster if you drink a lot of coffee, tea or red wine, or smoke. Occasional top-ups with your trays keep things bright.

How professional whitening works

  1. Assessment. We check your teeth and gums, note your current shade and look at any fillings or crowns.
  2. Clean first. A professional clean removes surface stain and tartar so the whitening gel works evenly.
  3. Your chosen method. We either make custom take-home trays or schedule an in-chair session.
  4. Whitening. You follow the take-home schedule, or we apply and monitor the gel in the chair.
  5. Review. We check the result and your comfort, and plan any top-ups or matching of front fillings.

Recovery and aftercare

Temporary sensitivity is common during whitening and usually settles within a day or two of stopping. Sensitive toothpaste helps. For 48 hours after each session, go easy on strongly coloured food and drink.

Risks and limitations

Possible side effects include tooth sensitivity, gum irritation and uneven results where teeth have existing restorations or uneven enamel. Whitening isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children whose adult teeth are still developing.

Fees, health funds and payment plans

The fee depends on whether you choose take-home, in-chair or both. We'll quote it at your assessment. Whitening is cosmetic, so health funds usually don't cover it, though the check-up and clean beforehand may be covered.

Frequently asked questions

How long does teeth whitening last?

Professional teeth whitening results commonly last from several months to a couple of years, depending on diet and habits. Occasional top-ups with take-home trays help maintain the shade.

Does whitening work on crowns or fillings?

No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers and fillings keep their original colour and may need replacing to match whitened teeth.

Is professional teeth whitening safe?

Yes, when it's supervised by a dentist after checking that your teeth and gums are healthy. The most common side effect is temporary sensitivity.

How many shades whiter will my teeth get?

It varies from person to person. Yellowish staining usually responds well, while grey or medication-related discolouration responds less. We give you a realistic expectation at your assessment.

Which is better, take-home or in-chair whitening?

Both work. In-chair whitening is faster, done in one appointment, while take-home trays work gradually and are easy to top up. Many people combine them.

Can I whiten my teeth after Invisalign?

Yes. Whitening after Invisalign is popular, and your aligners or retainers can sometimes be used as whitening trays. We check your teeth first.
