Implants

A dental implant is the most natural-appearing and functional alternative for replacing a missing tooth. It is an artificial tooth root made from medical-grade titanium that is surgically placed beneath the gum line, where it bonds naturally with the surrounding jawbone through a process called osseointegration.

This titanium screw acts as an abutment (support) for a crown or bridge to be placed on top of it, functioning and appearing just like a natural tooth.

Prevent Further Tooth and Bone Loss

It is important to replace a missing tooth as soon as possible to prevent deterioration of the bone that once supported it. When a tooth is lost, the underlying jawbone begins to resorb (shrink) — which can lead to:
  • Shifting and drifting of adjacent and opposing teeth.
  • Structural changes to your jaw and facial profile.
  • Loss of chewing function and altered speech.
  • Increased risk of further tooth loss.
A dental implant is the only tooth replacement option that stimulates the jawbone, preventing bone loss and preserving your facial structure.

Advantages of Implants

One of the key advantages of dental implants compared to bridges is that they are completely freestanding — they hold their position with the support of their own anchor in the jawbone, without involving the adjacent teeth at all. This means neighbouring healthy teeth do not need to be prepared or ground down.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Improved Appearance

Implants are the closest alternative to natural teeth — they look, feel and function like the real thing.

Improved Speech

Unlike removable dentures, implants do not slip — allowing you to speak with confidence and clarity.

Improved Self-Esteem

Restore your smile and your confidence with a permanent tooth replacement solution.

Improved Chewing Ability

Eat the foods you love again — implants function just like natural teeth when biting and chewing.

Improved Oral Health

Implants secure the position of surrounding teeth and stimulate bone, protecting your long-term oral health.

Durability

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime — making them a cost-effective long-term investment.

Dental Implants in Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill and Dural

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a fixed, natural-looking tooth that doesn't rely on the teeth next to it. Integrity Dental provides implants at our Baulkham Hills and Dural practices for patients across the Hills District, including Castle Hill. We always start with a consultation and a written plan, so you know the timeline and every fee before anything begins.

In short: A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw bone, where it bonds with the bone over a few months. A crown is then fitted on top. Implants can replace one tooth, several teeth or, with All-on-X, a full arch. At Integrity Dental the process starts with a consultation and imaging, and you receive a written treatment plan with fees before deciding.

Why people choose implants

When a tooth is lost, the bone that held it slowly shrinks, and the teeth either side can drift into the gap. An implant sits in the bone like a root, which helps preserve it. It also means we don't need to cut down the neighbouring teeth, which a traditional bridge requires.

For most people the practical benefits are what matter: chewing comfortably on that side again, no plate to take out at night and a tooth that looks like it belongs.

Are you a good candidate?

Most healthy adults with a missing tooth can have an implant. What we need to check is the amount and quality of bone, the health of your gums and how your bite works.

Some things make implants riskier or less predictable. These include smoking, poorly controlled diabetes, active gum disease, some medications that affect bone, and heavy grinding. None of these automatically rule you out, but we'll talk them through honestly. If bone is thin, a bone graft may be needed first.

Single implants, bridges or All-on-X

One missing tooth usually means one implant and one crown. Several missing teeth in a row can often be replaced with two implants supporting a bridge.

If you've lost most of your teeth in one jaw, or you're struggling with a loose denture, All-on-X uses several implants to hold a fixed full arch of teeth. It's a bigger undertaking, and we'll explain the process, maintenance and costs in detail.

The implant process, step by step

  1. Consultation and imaging. We examine the area, take X-rays and, where needed, 3D imaging to measure the bone. You'll leave with options, a timeline and a written estimate.
  2. Preparation if needed. Any decay or gum disease is treated first. If bone is thin, grafting may be recommended.
  3. Implant placement. The implant is placed under local anaesthetic. Most people are surprised how manageable it is, and many return to work the next day.
  4. Healing. Over roughly three to six months, the implant bonds with the bone. A temporary tooth can usually be worn in the meantime if the gap is visible.
  5. The final crown. Once healed, we fit a custom crown matched to your other teeth.
  6. Ongoing care. Implants need brushing, flossing and regular hygiene visits, just like natural teeth.

Recovery and aftercare

Expect some swelling and tenderness for a few days after placement. Soft foods, cold compresses and over-the-counter pain relief help. Avoid smoking, which significantly increases the risk of an implant failing to integrate. We'll check healing at a review appointment.

Risks and limitations

Implant treatment has a high success rate in suitable patients, but no outcome is guaranteed. Risks include infection, the implant not bonding with the bone, nerve irritation in the lower jaw, and gum or bone problems around the implant over time (peri-implantitis). Good oral hygiene and regular reviews reduce these risks. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Fees, health funds and payment plans

The cost of a dental implant depends on how many teeth are being replaced, whether bone grafting is needed and the type of crown. Your written treatment plan lists every item and fee. Interest-free payment plans are available, and some private health funds with major dental cover contribute.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get dental implants near Castle Hill?

Integrity Dental provides dental implants at its Baulkham Hills practice, 48 Seven Hills Road, around 10 minutes from Castle Hill, and at its Dural practice at Round Corner. Treatment starts with a consultation and a written plan.

How long does a dental implant take from start to finish?

Most single implants take around three to six months from placement to the final crown, mainly to allow the implant to bond with the bone. Bone grafting can add a few months.

How long do dental implants last?

With good care and regular dental visits, dental implants can last many years. The crown on top may need replacing over time due to normal wear.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Afterwards, most people have mild to moderate soreness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

Am I too old for dental implants?

There's no upper age limit for dental implants. What matters is your general health, bone and gums, which we assess at your consultation.

Can I pay for implants in instalments?

Yes. Integrity Dental offers interest-free payment plans for implant treatment. Ask about the options when you receive your treatment plan.
