Missing most or all of your teeth can affect everyday eating, speech and confidence. All on X is an approach to replacing a full arch of teeth with a fixed bridge supported by several dental implants. The “X” refers to the number of implants used, which is selected according to your individual needs.
If you are exploring options for extensive tooth loss or an uncomfortable denture, an assessment can help you understand whether this approach may be suitable.
Dental implants are placed in the jaw to support a connected set of replacement teeth. A fixed bridge stays in place during daily use and is removed by a dental professional when required. The number and position of implants, bridge design and treatment stages depend on the condition of your mouth and the proposed treatment plan.
All on X may be considered for people who have lost all their teeth in an arch, or whose remaining teeth cannot be predictably restored. Healthy natural teeth should be assessed carefully before any decision to remove them.
Your dentist will review your teeth and gums, available bone, bite, medical history and medications. Smoking, gum disease and some health conditions can affect implant healing and long-term outcomes. Imaging may be recommended to help plan treatment.
Some patients may be suitable for a temporary fixed bridge soon after implant placement. This depends on implant stability and clinical assessment; same-day teeth are not suitable for everyone. Healing and the final restoration can require several months.
A fixed implant bridge can provide stability for eating and speaking and replace a full arch without a separate implant for every tooth. Results and the time needed to adjust vary between patients.
Implant treatment involves surgery. Possible complications include infection, bleeding, nerve injury, implants failing to integrate, inflammation around implants and damage or loosening of bridge components. Additional treatment or repairs may be needed. Your dentist will explain risks relevant to your case.
Alternatives may include preserving and restoring existing teeth, conventional dentures or an implant-supported removable denture. Comparing these options helps you make an informed decision.
Daily cleaning around the implants and beneath the bridge, together with regular professional reviews, is essential. Your dental team will demonstrate the recommended cleaning tools and arrange a review schedule based on your needs. The bridge and its components may need maintenance or replacement over time.
