General Dentistry

General Dentistry at Integrity Dental is about more than just fixing problems — it is about helping you develop effective care routines to keep you healthy, smiling and looking good for life. Our team provides comprehensive general dentistry services at our Baulkham Hills and Dural practices.

Restorative (Fillings)

High-quality tooth-coloured restorations are placed to restore any defect caused by decay or other damage to the tooth structure. Our fillings are carefully matched to the natural colour of your teeth, providing both function and aesthetics in one appointment.

We use the latest materials and techniques to ensure your restoration is durable, natural-looking, and comfortable for everyday use.

Diagnostics

Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of great dental care. Our team uses digital X-rays, intraoral cameras and clinical examinations to ascertain the correct diagnosis and explain our findings to you in a clear and understandable way.

We believe informed patients make better decisions about their dental health. We take the time to walk you through your X-rays and examination results so you fully understand your options.

Dental Decay

Where a tooth has been damaged by decay, a restoration (filling) is the best treatment to restore the tooth to its full function and appearance. Our dental hygienists work with you to maintain an ongoing preventative program to reduce the risk of future decay.

Early detection of dental decay means simpler, less invasive treatment. That is why regular check-ups are so important — catching small problems before they become large ones.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth (third molars) typically erupt between the ages of 17–25. Problems most often arise when a wisdom tooth only partially erupts or is in an improper position in the jaw.
Reasons for Removal
  • Decay
Bacteria collect around impacted wisdom teeth making them very difficult to clean, leading to decay in the wisdom tooth and sometimes the adjacent molar.

  • Pressure Causing Pain
An erupting wisdom tooth can press on neighbouring teeth, causing pain, crowding and shifting of your existing teeth.

  • Formation of a Cyst
An infected, fluid-filled pocket can form around an impacted wisdom tooth, potentially causing bone destruction and damage to surrounding structures.

  • Unerupted but Symptomatic
Lower wisdom teeth are especially problematic — even when unerupted, they can cause pain, infection and discomfort in the jaw and gum tissue.

The Extraction Process

Assessment includes a thorough clinical examination and dental X-ray. The extraction procedure uses a local anaesthetic numbing injection to ensure you are completely comfortable. Our team will phone you after your procedure to check on your recovery and healing.

Dental Check-ups and Cleans in Baulkham Hills and Dural

A regular check-up and clean is the simplest way to avoid toothache, fillings and big dental bills later. Integrity Dental has been doing them for Hills District families since 1987, at our Baulkham Hills and Dural practices, with Saturday appointments for people who can't get away during the week.

  • Open Saturdays 8am to 2pm
  • Two practices: Baulkham Hills and Dural

In short: A dental check-up and clean at Integrity Dental includes an examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, X-rays when they're due, and a professional clean to remove plaque and tartar. Most people need one every six months. Appointments are available at Baulkham Hills and Dural, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm.

Why six-monthly visits matter

Decay and gum disease rarely hurt in the early stages. By the time a tooth aches, the decay is usually deep, and the fix is bigger and more expensive. A check-up catches problems while they're small, often small enough to watch or treat with a simple filling.

Tartar is the other reason. Once plaque hardens into tartar, a toothbrush won't remove it. Left there, it irritates the gums and leads to bleeding, recession and eventually bone loss. A professional clean removes it.

What we check

We look at more than cavities. Your dentist checks each tooth, existing fillings and crowns, gum health, your bite, signs of grinding, and the soft tissues of your mouth, tongue and throat for anything unusual.

X-rays are taken when they're due, usually every couple of years for most adults, sooner if you're at higher risk. They show decay between teeth and problems below the gum line that can't be seen by looking.

Cleans for sensitive mouths

If you find scaling uncomfortable, ask about Guided Biofilm Therapy. It uses a disclosing dye to show where plaque is, then warm water, air and fine powder to remove it, with less scraping.

Nervous about the dentist in general? Tell us when you book. Our Comfort Menu lists small things we can do to help you feel more at ease, and we're happy to go slowly.

What happens at a check-up and clean

  1. A quick chat about any concerns, changes in your health or medications since your last visit..
  2. Examination of your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues..
  3. X-rays, if they're due..
  4. A professional clean, removing plaque and tartar and polishing away surface stains..
  5. Advice tailored to you, whether that's a brushing tip, a fluoride recommendation or a plan for any treatment needed..
  6. Booking your next visit, usually in six months..

Recovery and aftercare

There's no recovery time. Your teeth may feel a little sensitive for a few hours after a deep clean, especially if there was a lot of tartar. Bleeding gums usually settle within a week or two of better home care.

Risks and limitations

Check-ups and cleans are low risk. Gums that are already inflamed may bleed during cleaning. X-rays use a very low dose of radiation, and we only take them when they're clinically useful.

Fees, health funds and payment plans

The fee depends on whether X-rays are due and how much cleaning is needed. Most private health funds with extras cover part or all of a routine check-up and clean. Eligible children are bulk billed under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule with no gap, and new patients can use our new patient offer.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a dental check-up?

Most people should have a dental check-up and clean every six months. People with gum disease or a history of frequent decay may need more frequent visits.

Can I book a dental check-up on Saturday in Baulkham Hills?

Yes. Integrity Dental Baulkham Hills and Integrity Dental Dural both offer Saturday appointments from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

Does my health fund cover a check-up and clean?

Most private health funds with extras cover part or all of a routine check-up and clean, depending on your level of cover. We can give you item numbers to check with your fund.

Are check-ups free for children?

Children eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule are bulk billed at Integrity Dental, so there is no gap for covered services such as check-ups and cleans.

How long does a check-up and clean take?

A routine check-up and clean usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes. A first visit as a new patient may take a little longer.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?

Bleeding gums are most often an early sign of gum inflammation (gingivitis) caused by plaque. A professional clean and better daily brushing and flossing usually settle it. Book a check-up if bleeding continues.
